Original description:

This new computer closes the gap in the Millennium range between the Chess Genius Pro and their flagship Chess Genius Exclusive.

With a size approximate 15 x 17 inches, the real wooden frame, pieces, 81 LEDs built in the board and the powerful processor of the Exclusive, it comes true to its title offering amazing Performance.

In addition to Johan de Koning's engine known from the King Element, the Chess960 variant was implemented for the first time.  It's stronger than the Chess Genius with an estimated 2450 ELO.

A connection to the ChessLink for playing with mobile devices on the board completes the device.

With this chess computer you play like a king!

The new The King Performance contains the legendary chess program The King by Johan de Koning. With its classic, harmonious design in a real wood frame, it is the perfect size for playing at home. The chessboard in veneer wood offers 81 LEDs for move indication and the new High Sensitive pressure sensor technology highly comfortable gaming fun. The handmade real wood figures round off the high-quality impression perfectly, or you can choose to use your own pieces!

In addition, there is an opponent waiting for you, who offers completely new and interesting challenges with his very active, risk-taking, sometimes even spectacular playing style. You won‘t play against any chess computer in a more human way! The function for saving different opponent personalities allows you to configure your own "personal king" step by step.

For the first time, the popular Chess960 game has been integrated according to the official FIDE rules. In addition, the new performance device also offers the connection to the ChessLink, so that you can play on the sensor board also against chess apps and even online against chess partners around the world.

Performance King - Lovely Board and System.

I purchased the Millennium Performance King Board together with the VOLT and LINK in order to have a suitably sized board for travel. For tournaments and most of my regular games, I typically use the DGT eBoard.
The PERFORMANCE KING measures 40 cm (15.7 inches) square and is lightweight enough to be conveniently carried along with the LINK and VOLT, without causing inconvenience. Its compact size allows it to fit easily into a small suitcase.
However, I do find the absence of magnetic features limiting when playing during transit—such as in a car, on a bus, or even on a plane—and would have appreciated this capability.

But all in all, I love this purchase and glad I was able to take advantage of chesshouse.live’s Open Box program.

Great set @ a great price!

I had wanted to upgrade my computer chess experience for some time and had thought the Millenium Chess King Performance out of my price range. Then I came across it in an open box deal. At $299 I couldn’t pass it up as it was described as having minimal use in very good condition. It arrived in a box that frankly appeared brand new & unopened. Contents were the same. The chess board had a few minor blemishes on the wood but otherwise looked great. It plays exceptionally well with pieces that to me appear like new. I used a few dabs of wood furniture scratch remover on the blemishes which restored the few blemishes to like new condition. I couldn’t be more pleased with how it looks or how it plays!

This is one of my favorite boards

I was a little hesitant to buy this board given that it came out 5 years ago and unlike more modern boards doesn’t have Bluetooth and/or WIFI and no battery built into the board but has external modules to handle these functions. However, upon opening the packaging (which was first rate) I saw how nice the board and the pieces looked. The LED lights are awesome and let you know your opponents moves when playing the AI or playing against an opponent on Chess.com or LIChess. It’s also compatible with third party apps that you can use to connect to other sites, use different ai engines and to use different opening books. The Kin Performance has over 300,000 different opening that you can play and practice again. One thing I thought was a great feature was when I selected to have black play the Sicilian Defense opening while I played white. The first time I played this it used the open Sicilian but the second time it used the Najdorf Sicilian and took me off guard. You can also tell it to play a second opening book and it will choose a move from the book if it can’t find a move using the first book. It also has a hint system so when playing the built-in AI or another person OTB you can ask for a hint and it will tell you what it feels is the best piece to move and where to move it too. I am aware of only one other chess board that tells you the best piece to move and that is the GoChess boards.

The technology in this board may seem dated but it still does what the more modern boards do and more. I recommend this board for beginner to advanced serious players.

Does the King Performance require special chess pieces or can any chess pieces be used?

Chess House

The King Performance does not require special pieces; however, since the board is a pressure sensitive, the sensitivity CAN be adversely affected by heavier weighted pieces. If the weight is too much, the board will not function properly.
